CHIP: Who’s eligible

Who can sign up for CHIP?

All children in Pennsylvania are eligible for CHIP if they meet the following requirements:

  • Under 18 years of age
  • A U.S. citizen, U.S. national or qualified alien
  • A resident of Pennsylvania
  • Uninsured and not eligible for Medical Assistance

How long can my child be on CHIP?

Your child can be covered by CHIP until they turn 19, regardless of household income. You don't have to fill out a medical questionnaire and there are no limits on coverage for pre-existing conditions

I’m losing my job, can I get CHIP for my child?

Is there coverage for children with special needs?

Yes, the CHIP Health and Wellness Support Program helps children with serious medical conditions and special health care needs get the care they require.

Is my child’s pre-existing condition covered?

There aren't any pre-existing condition limits to qualify for CHIP.

Is substance abuse help covered?

Yes, substance abuse services are covered under CHIP.

When does my coverage start?

CHIP coverage usually begins on the first day of the next month after you enroll.

For example: If you enroll on April 15, your coverage will begin on May 1.

What are the dates and deadlines to enroll in CHIP?

You can enroll in CHIP anytime throughout the year. 

How do I renew my CHIP coverage?
keyboard_arrow_down

As long as you pay your monthly premium, your plan will automatically renew. Each year, we send a form to you to renew your coverage. If for some reason you don’t receive it, or you are unable to locate the form, contact customer service at 1-800-543-7105.
