D-SNP and eligibility
Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans are a type of Medicare Advantage Plan for individuals who are entitled to both Medicare and medical assistance from a state plan under Medicaid.
Depending on the state and your eligibility, the state may cover some Medicare costs. You can join a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) if you qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. There are a few basic requirements. You must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful, permanent resident.
- Live in an area where D-SNP's are offered.
- Meet the financial requirements for your state's Medicaid program.
- Qualify for Original Medicare (Parts A & B).
