Highmark Western and Northeastern New York appoints Sheila L. Brown to Board of Directors

Buffalo, N.Y. (March 22, 2024) — Highmark Western and Northeastern New York announced the election of Sheila L. Brown, visionary leader, three-time author, and CEO of a qualified Woman Business Enterprise (MWBE), to its Board of Directors.

Brown serves as CEO of Vision Multi-Media and owner of WUFO 1080 AM radio, the Buffalo Hall of Fame-inducted heritage station which serves the African-American community. She started as an entry-level saleswoman at WUFO in 1986, moving to sales manager and then to owner, becoming the first African-American female radio owner in Buffalo.   

Brown has owned and operated four children’s clothing stores in the Allentown neighborhood and Central Park Plaza.

Brown is an author, and is currently working on her first movie, The Barrington Brown Story.

She received the media award from the Black Achievers, is a 2019 inductee into the Black Achiever Museum in Buffalo and was recognized by Buffalo Business First on the Top 125 Power Women list. Most recently, Brown was inducted as the first African American into the Buffalo Broadcaster Association.

Brown is also the CEO and President of the WUFO Black Radio History Collective, preserving sixty-one years of WUFO's recorded history, past, present, and future. Sheila recently expanded her brand by purchasing her second radio station in Atlanta, Georgia, WIGO Pacesetter 1570am.

She is married to Kenneth Brown and has three children: Morgan, Barrington, and Blaine. She is a Lifetime member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church.
