Highmark employees brighten the holidays for community with $20,000 and hundreds of gifts

Buffalo, N.Y. (December 23, 2024) — Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield employees concluded their 2024 holiday giving campaign with a remarkable display of generosity, donating $20,000 to four local nonprofits and collecting over 200 gifts for community members in need.

Highmark's 2024 holiday giving initiative engaged more employees than ever before through a series of flexible options to participate, including in-person events, drive-thru drop-offs, and team wrapping parties at Seneca One, as well as at Highmark’s Medicare Centers.

“The spirit of giving at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is truly inspiring, and it extends far beyond the holiday season,” said Jessica Cox, president, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. "The dedication and generosity shown by our 1,400 local team members this year — participating in so many different ways — is a testament to their commitment to our community and fills me with immense pride."

For the second year, Highmark BCBS employees, through their Holiday Helpers fund, selected four local non-profits to receive $5,000 donations each. Over 70 organizations were nominated, and the following four were selected as 2024 Holiday Helpers recipients:

  • Compass House
  • Child & Family Services/Haven House of Buffalo
  • Alzheimer's Association of WNY
  • Snuggled in Love

Representatives from each organization joined Highmark’s annual holiday meeting to be recognized and receive their donation.

Employees’ generosity extended beyond monetary contributions, including hundreds of donated gifts for children and adults at The Valley Community Association and Terrace View Long Term Care, and members of the Amherst Senior Center.

This year's efforts build upon Highmark's long-standing tradition of community engagement and align with the company's Bright Blue Futures program, which encompasses grantmaking and employee volunteer efforts across its footprint in Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, and New York.

Highmark BCBS employees collectively volunteered over 2,000 hours in 2024, complementing the health plan's corporate giving program, which annually invests over $7 million in local organizations and initiatives promoting community well-being.
