PITTSBURGH (April 11, 2023) — Highmark Blue Shield announced that Chris Handley has been named vice president of Sales for Southeastern Pennsylvania, continuing to build out a strong leadership team as the organization plans to roll out a variety of health insurance solutions in Southeastern Pennsylvania starting in 2024.
“Chris is a talented healthcare leader who has experience in the Southeastern Pennsylvania market, possesses deep knowledge of the business community’s top priorities, and takes pride in cultivating high-performing teams and future leaders,” said Daniel Tropeano, Highmark Blue Shield’s Southeastern Pennsylvania segment president. “Chris will help us create remarkable experiences—both for Highmark team members and the community.”
With more than 20 years of experience in the health insurance industry, Handley has a proven track record of increasing brand recognition, market share, and revenue while tailoring health benefits to customers’ needs. Handley most recently served as a vice president of Savoy, a consultative brokerage agency specializing in partnering with select insurance producers to grow and maintain their books of business. While at Savoy, Handley also helped drive expansion efforts, while also leading multiple hiring and career development initiatives. Previously, he served as a senior account executive for UnitedHealthcare.
Handley earned a master’s in education from Penn State University and a BS in Telecommunications from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. He serves as the president of the Pennsylvania Association of Health Underwriters, an organization representing health insurance agents and brokers committed to informing and protecting consumers by enhancing the professional growth of its members.
A longtime statewide company and the only Blue Shield licensee in Pennsylvania, Highmark Blue Shield plans to offer Southeastern Pennsylvania individuals and families a full suite of health insurance products for all segments (including Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Individual Affordable Care Act, Small Group Affordable Care Act, Large Group Fully Insured, Large Group Self-Insured) across 2024 and 2025, subject to regulatory approval.
