Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield employees Donate 45 handmade blankets to ECMC

Buffalo, N.Y. (October 20, 2023) — Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield employees delivered 45 handmade blankets, along with a $500 donation, to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) for adolescent patients ranging from 7-17 years old in ECMC’s Behavioral Health Center.

As part of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Bright Blue Futures community giving and employee volunteer program, employees were given the opportunity to submit an initiative for funding. Employees rallied around the idea of donating blankets to the children receiving treatment at ECMC and joined together to assemble them.

Thomas J. Quatroche Jr., PhD, ECMC President and CEO said, "Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield's generous blanket donation will contribute to the care and comfort of adolescent Behavioral Health patients at ECMC. We thank Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield's dedicated team for their kindness and support, which will make a positive difference in the lives of our patients."

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield employees have a long legacy of giving back to the community through a variety of initiatives. Recent examples of their volunteerism include days of service to benefit Massachusetts Avenue Project, Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo and the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park, and employees have volunteered a collective 900 hours of their time in 2023 alone.
