— Promotes 18-year leader Mark Walter to new vice president, sales role —
Buffalo, NY — Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield today announced the promotion of Mark Walter to the position of vice president of sales. The creation of this role and Mark's appointment as a tenured executive reflects the company's commitment to growth within the western New York and Capital Region markets.
In this role, Mark will be responsible for developing and executing the sales strategy for Highmark’s New York markets. He will lead a team of sales executives and client managers to drive new business, new solutions and new services to new and existing accounts. He will also oversee account retention and service, manage client and broker/consultant relationships and explore new distribution channels.

Walter has been with Highmark for 18 years, previously holding the position of Director of Sales and Client Management. He brings a wealth of experience in technical sales for insured and self-funded clients, ancillary lines, new client implementations, client management and broker partnerships. Walter boasts over 25 years of experience in the volunteer fire service, having held numerous leadership positions during his tenure, and currently serves as assistant chief to Clarence Center’s Fire Company.
Mark was a founding member of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce’s Emerging Business Leaders program, is a graduate of Leadership Buffalo Rising Leaders, and previously served on the board of the National Association of Health Underwriters. He is also a proud graduate of Canisius University.
