PITTSBURGH AND LAS VEGAS (October 20, 2025) — Highmark today announced a collaboration with preventive health leader Noom to support health plan members through a whole-person health approach to weight management. By leveraging behavior change and habit formation techniques, personalized coaching and cutting-edge technology, Noom: Weight Management delivers a remarkable health experience designed to help members achieve their health goals.
With nearly 74% of U.S. adults overweight and obese costing the health system $173 billion annually, Highmark and Noom are combining resources to address one of the nation’s most urgent health challenges.
“Highmark and Noom are both dedicated to building a world-class customer experience for the people we serve by engaging them when, where and how is best for them,” said Tracy Saula, chief product and experience officer at Highmark Health. “Our members will find that Noom: Weight Management is customized to their unique needs and goals, guiding them toward implementing changes and ultimately sustaining a healthy routine.”
After enrolling and completing an onboarding assessment, eligible Highmark members will be matched to the right Noom journey based on acuity level. The journeys within Noom: Weight Management can be personalized for those at risk of developing diabetes as well as those living with type 2 diabetes. All journeys offer bite-sized lessons, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered smart tools, one-on-one support and peer communities.
Additionally, Noom’s GLP-1 Companion is available to members across all journeys who self-report they are taking a GLP-1 medication. This feature offers customized content such as protein intake guidance, strategies to help retain muscle and information on managing side effects.
“Health is more than managing weight or a diagnosis — it’s about creating lasting habits that support overall well-being," said Cody Fair, chief commercial officer at Noom. “Through our collaboration with Highmark, members will gain access to AI-powered tools like body scan technology and smart food logging, providing real-time insights, making healthier choices easier and helping drive sustainable long-term outcomes.”
Obesity can increase a person’s risk for hypertension, type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease — with huge associated costs to the health care system. Studies have shown that weight loss of 5 to 10 percent can lead to clinically meaningful results and reduce the economic impact of costly comorbidities.
“Noom: Weight Management allows for members to focus on improving their daily lifestyle habits, providing them with the support they need for long-lasting change,” said Susan Deakin, DO, medical director and vice president, Population and Curated Health at Highmark Health and Internal Medicine physician at Allegheny Health Network. “This proactive approach engages members earlier, meaning they are more likely to seek care before reaching a high acuity level, which is a key component of our Living Health strategy.”
Nearly 2 million Highmark members are eligible for Noom: Weight Management as part of their medical benefits with no additional, out-of-pocket cost. Beginning January 1, 2026, members can confirm their eligibility by logging on to their My Highmark mobile app or web portal at myhighmark.com.
