Buffalo, N.Y. (September 8, 2024) — As the first week of the 2024 school year wrapped up and the Buffalo Bills took the field for their home opener, Buffalo Prep was honored with a special recognition by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Buffalo Bills.
Highmark's Community Hero program, now in its fourth year, highlights influential non-profit organizations in the Buffalo community at each regular season home game. In addition to the recognition, Buffalo Prep received a $2,500 donation and two tickets to the game.
Buffalo Prep was founded in 1989 by education and community leaders to help academically ambitious students of color prepare for, obtain entrance into, and excel at demanding college preparatory high schools. Buffalo Prep has grown exponentially over the years and now serves hundreds of students and alumni each year with our unique pipeline of Prep Scholars Academy, Middle School Prep, High School Prep, College Prep, and Alumni Prep programs.
“Buffalo Prep is deeply honored and incredibly grateful to be named the Highmark Community Hero. This recognition not only celebrates the hard work and dedication of our scholars, staff, and supporters but also underscores the vital role that education equity and empowerment play in building stronger communities. At Buffalo Prep, we strive daily to provide opportunities and resources that help our scholars illuminate their brilliance,” said Patti Stephens, president, Buffalo Prep. “Being recognized by Highmark is a testament to the impact of our collective efforts, and it inspires us to continue our mission with even greater passion and commitment. Thank you, Highmark, for believing in our vision and standing with us as we work to create a brighter and more equitable future for the young leaders of tomorrow.”
