PITTSBURGH (April 17, 2024) — Highmark Inc. is inviting others to step in to support their favorite nonprofit organizations during its annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, which will benefit 150 nonprofits throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware this May and June. Online registration to participate is free and available now at the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community website.
This unique event unites community members and nonprofits throughout various communities to raise money to boost impactful programs and initiatives that focus on Community Health and help ensure healthier, brighter and stronger futures for all.
The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community is part of the Highmark Bright Blue Futures charitable giving and community involvement program that focuses on improving equitable access to care, quality of life and economic resilience in the communities we serve. Through 2023, the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community events have raised more than $18.4 million for more than 550 health and human service nonprofit organizations.
“This annual event is a key initiative of our Highmark Bright Blue Futures program, as community members join us to support local organizations that are doing meaningful work to strengthen our communities and to participate in a healthy activity,” said Highmark Health Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Dan Onorato. “We’re proud to offer this unique platform that provides nonprofits with a significant fundraising opportunity to build capacity for their mission and continue their impactful work throughout the communities we serve.”
Highmark hosts and fully funds each event, while participants select the nonprofit organization they wish to support. The nonprofits then keep 100 percent of the funds raised by the participants to use in future community-minded programs and initiatives.
At each location, fully accessible 5K (3.1 mile) routes and one-mile routes are available, and pets on leashes are welcome. In addition to the walk, entertainment, family-friendly activities and refreshments will be available for all attendees to enjoy.
