2022 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community registration now open

  • In-person events benefitting area non-profits to return this spring

PITTSBURGH (March 24, 2022) — Highmark Inc. and community members will once again come together across Pennsylvania and Delaware in person to raise money for the 260 local nonprofit health and human services organizations participating in the annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. Online registration for the walk is now open for participants to take their first step toward completing this year's walk by registering today.

The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, held annually throughout the region since 2003, has helped organizations collectively raise more than $16.8 million. This past year, nonprofits raised more than $800,000 in a completely online virtual format.

"We are proud to see this walk continue to grow and support these outstanding organizations year after year," said Dan Onorato, executive vice president, Highmark Health. "The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community continues to provide local nonprofits with a unique fundraising opportunity to build capacity for their mission, expand resources, and extend their work in the communities we serve."

Highmark hosts and fully funds each event, while walkers select the participating nonprofit organization they wish to support. The nonprofits then keep 100 percent of the funds raised by their walkers.

A 5K (3.1 mile) route and a one-mile route (both are accessible for individuals with disabilities) are available, and pets on leashes are welcome. In addition to the walk, there will be entertainment, refreshments and prizes.

Walkers can register and donate now at the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community website, where they can select their walk location and the participating nonprofit of their choice.

The locations and dates include:

Pittsburgh — Saturday, May 7 at Heinz Field
Northeastern Pennsylvania — Saturday, May 7 at PNC Field in Moosic
