Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield to present free Senior Health Expo on June 30
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (June 25, 2018) — A community event focused on health and wellness for seniors 60 and older will take place Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Pittsburgh South. The event is free and open to the public.
The Healthy Living Expo, presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, will feature vendors and expert advice on nutrition, exercise, health care, financial planning and more. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with a financial planner, learn more about MyChart interactive health records and find an ideal Doctor Match. Free cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure screenings will be available throughout the day, and attendees can talk with a Wellness Coach and review prescriptions with a pharmacist.
Allegheny Health Network physicians and nurses will deliver health talks and presentations on a variety of topics, including cardiac care at 10 a.m., osteoporosis at 11 a.m., diabetes at noon and orthopedics at 1 p.m. A health care "know-how" discussion at 2 p.m. will provide an opportunity for participants to learn more about Medicare options and ask questions to experts. Healthy cooking demonstrations will also be offered during the event at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
Local health and wellness exhibitors, including SilverSneakers, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services and the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging, will be onsite offering attendees additional resources for staying connected to their health.
The Pirate Parrot will make a special appearance and there will be free giveaways, snacks and refreshments throughout the day.
