Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health announces second round of grants in inaugural year

  • New Round of Grants Totaling More than $250,000 to Fund Programs to BenefitWest Virginia Communities

Parkersburg, W.Va. (December 9, 2021) — Wrapping up its first six months of grant making, the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health announces its second round of funding, totaling $252,000. Six West Virginia-based non-profit organizations will receive grants to support existing programs and newly created initiatives that focus on the health and wellness of West Virginia residents.

The grant recipients below will receive funding this year for programs and initiatives focusing on Social Determinates of Health (SDoH), Oral Health and Dental Care, and Family Health:

  • Capital City Give Kids A Smile, Inc. (Kanawha)
  • Florence Crittenton Services, Inc. (Ohio)
  • Marshall University Research Corporation (Cabell)
  • Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department (Wood)
  • Walking Miracles Family Foundation (Putnam)
  • West Virginia Health Right (Kanawha)

This year alone, the Charitable Fund has awarded more than $1 million in funding to more than two dozen organizations throughout the state, making its current total more than $1.3 million. The Charitable Fund awards programs and initiatives that specifically address and improve the health, well-being and quality of life for West Virginia residents.

“It is humbling and rewarding to partner with so many organizations that are moving the needle in improving the health and well-being of West Virginians every day. This Charitable Fund enables us to join efforts to enhance the quality of life for so many in need in our communities,” said Jim Fawcett, president of Highmark West Virginia. “Also, I’m excited to share we are expanding the Fund’s focus to include a new RFP, which will be announced early next year.”
