The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has designated March as National Nutrition Month — the perfect time to commit to healthier eating.
As a first step, take a look at the "Dietary Guidelines for Americans," created by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Health and Human Services. The guidelines discuss how to establish beneficial eating patterns and identify healthy foods and beverages. In addition, they emphasize the importance of physical activity for maintaining a healthy weight.
Follow these steps to healthier nutrition
- Commit to healthier nutrition instead of dieting.
- Downsize servings.
- Eat a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables.
- Eat breakfast every day.
- Eat slow and savor the flavor.
- Eat whole foods and fiber.
