Highmark Helps Individuals Think and Act On Behalf of Their Heart's Health

PITTSBURGH (Feb. 12, 2016) — Launching this Valentine's weekend, the first phase of Highmark's new heart health advertising campaign encourages individuals across western Pennsylvania to ask themselves "What The Heart Wants." The multi-faceted, multi-platform campaign takes a light touch on a serious subject, focusing attention once again on how people can strengthen their heart, and helping them do so.

"To begin sharing our love for all things heart, we will be handing out red heart-shaped balloons in Pittsburgh over Valentine's weekend and asking recipients to share what their heart wants," explained Cindy Donohoe, Highmark's senior vice president of marketing. "Take a balloon and take a picture. If you use @Highmark with the hashtag #WhatTheHeartWants on social media, we'll donate $1 to the American Heart Association."

"No balloon, no problem. You can still help us advocate for heart health. Spread the word on social media and talk to your friends and family," said Donohoe. "Highmark members have access to blood pressure checks and cholesterol screenings and work with health coaches to develop healthy lifestyles. We all need to know what our hearts want to be healthy."

To that aim, Highmark is presenting, Highmark Heart — Wake Up, Warm Up, a four-episode, two-minute segment on local Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA-TV sharing healthy heart tips. A cardiac specialist from Allegheny Health Network and a Highmark fitness instructor will share achievable steps viewers can take at home to achieve a heart healthy lifestyle. Highmark Heart — Wake Up, Warm Up airs on KDKA-TV, Sundays at 9:10 a.m. starting Valentine's Day and on Feb. 16 on KDKA-TV's Morning News on The CW. To learn more about heart health, visit
