Highmark announces 2021 Affordable Care Act products in West Virginia

Parkersburg, W.Va. (November 1, 2020) — Highmark West Virginia today announced its Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance products for the upcoming year, offering individuals and families a wide range of high-quality, affordable coverage options tailored to meet their individual needs.

The open enrollment period for selecting a 2021 ACA plan in West Virginia runs from Sunday, November 1, 2020 to Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Consumers are also eligible to shop for an ACA plan outside of the annual open enrollment period if they have experienced certain life-changing events, including losing health insurance, having a child or moving.

In 2021, Highmark will offer ACA plans in West Virginia with among the lowest deductibles at all metal tiers, including $0 deductible options. Many consumers — including about 75 percent of Highmark’s current ACA members — are eligible to receive subsidies or tax credits to help make coverage even more affordable. Members who qualify receive an average credit of $1,100 per month.

“Many of our new ACA customers are encouraged by the number of high-quality options Highmark offers for individuals and families,” says Alexis Miller, president of federal markets for Highmark. “Many are used to employer coverage where they might only have one or two choices. We have an expert team available to help new shoppers sort through their options and pick the right plan for them.”

West Virginia consumers can select from a range of broad-network ACA plans from Highmark, called my Blue Access, that provide in-network access to all acute care hospitals in the state, as well as in-network coverage for services received from more than 95 percent of doctors and hospitals around the country through the BlueCard® program. This includes access to contracted Blues providers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland, and Virginia.

In 2021, Highmark will introduce ACA plans in West Virginia that offer integrated adult dental and vision coverage.

“We introduced integrated dental and vision plans in the ACA marketplace last year in Pennsylvania, and received extremely positive feedback from consumers,” Miller says. “We’re pleased to offer these comprehensive coverage options to West Virginia for 2021.”

Highmark’s current ACA membership in West Virginia is approximately 14,000. Last year, about 3,800 West Virginia consumers chose a Highmark ACA plan for the first time. Almost 1,000 Highmark ACA members in WV receive tax credits that reduce their premium to less than $5 per month.

Consumers must enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts on January 1. For more information on Highmark’s 2021 ACA health insurance products, visit www.discoverhighmark.com or call 877-959-2562.
