Highmark West Virginia and West Virginia Power team up for Ks for Kids to benefit Step by Step After-School Program

Charleston, W.Va. (June 4 , 2021) — Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield West Virginia announced today that as part of its 7th annual Ks for Kids program, the company will donate $5 to The Step by Step after-school program for every strikeout thrown by a West Virginia Power pitcher at Appalachian Power Park this season.

“Through our annual Ks for Kids program, Highmark West Virginia and the West Virginia Power have the opportunity to spotlight an outstanding program in our community that is making a difference in the lives of our children,” said Jim Fawcett, president, Highmark West Virginia. “At Highmark WV, we care about the communities we serve, and supporting the Step by Step after-school program is just one of the ways we can give back.”

The Step by Step after-school program offers children a safe environment where they can have fun, receive homework help, participate in activities such as art, music, games, physical activity and STEM experiments. Step by Step operates 13 sites in Logan, Lincoln and Kanawha Counties and offers children programs are not only interesting, but also provide constructive activities that channel youthful energy.

Michael Farmer. “Step by Step helps children by providing 100% free quality programming, and nurturing after-school experiences and this support will help us continue our mission.”

This is the seventh year that Highmark West Virginia has partnered with the West Virginia Power as part of the Ks for Kids program. Since 2014, over $16,000 has been awarded through Ks for Kids to deserving local organizations.

The 2021 West Virginia Power baseball season kicked off on May 30th.
