2016

Best Place to Work for People with Disabilities

Highmark Health was recognized as a "Best Place to Work" in the "Disability Equality Index." The index is a new national benchmark established jointly by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the U.S. Business Leadership Network® (USBLN®). Points were awarded on the basis of four criteria, including culture and leadership, enterprise-wide access, employment practices, and community engagement and support services.

2015

2012

Justice for All Award

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) recently announced Highmark as a 2012 Justice for All award recipient. Highmark works to ensure that people with disabilities have access to quality affordable healthcare. In 2011, Highmark staff volunteered over 82,000 hours across hundreds of nonprofit organizations, including disability-focused organizations — providing work valued at over $1.69 million dollars. This work includes financial and volunteer support for the Paralyzed Veterans of America Wheelchair Games. Highmark employs over 100 people who self-identify as a person with a disability in areas of healthcare informatics, accounting, customer service and information technology. To support these employees, Highmark has a centralized accommodation budget to assist with effective workplace integration for their employees with disabilities.

2011

Unstoppable Award

Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) honored Highmark with the "Unstoppable Award" at their annual Americana Gala in Washington, DC. Highmark was selected to receive the award for its level of leadership and support of PVA's sports and recreational programs for U.S. veterans with disabilities and for championing quality of life for all people with disabilities.

Distinction in Multicultural Health Care

Highmark Inc. is the first Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan to receive a Distinction in Multicultural Health Care (MHC) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Highmark is recognized for its Commercial HMO and Medicare Advantage HMO products offered under diversified business, Keystone Health Plan West (KHPW). This distinction exemplifies Highmark's leadership in working to improve health care for all Americans.

2010

Diversity Leader Award®

Profiles in Diversity Journal, a national bi-monthly magazine, has given Highmark a 2010 Diversity Leader Award® in recognition of Highmark's outstanding diversity communications practices during the last year. The award places Highmark with several Fortune 500 organizations.

John H. Adams Corporation of the Year

The Western Pennsylvania Minority Supplier Development Council recognized Highmark with the John H. Adams Corporation of the Year Award. Highmark earned the award for its commitment to fostering relationships with local corporations to benefit economic development of minority businesses. Specifically, Highmark mentored and supported minority business vendors.

2009

Best Places to Work in PA

Highmark Inc., Pennsylvania's largest health insurance company based on membership and an employer of more than 11,000 individuals across the state, was named one of the top 100 Best Places to Work in PA in 2009 by the Central Penn Business Journal and its program partners.
