24-Hour Nurse Line

Not sure where to go for care? Have questions about a health concern? Help is just a phone call away! A registered nurse is ready to listen to your personal health needs and give you helpful information with your best interest in mind.

Call 1-855-805-9408 (TTY: 711)

If you’re having a medical emergency, call 911.

If you’re having a mental health emergency, call 988

As a reminder, you should try to contact your primary care provider or family doctor first. But what if your doctor isn’t available?

The Highmark Wholecare 24-Hour Nurse Line can help you get the care that is right for you, right now, by providing information on:

  • Self-care and home treatments.
  • When to go to an urgent care center.
  • When to go to the doctor.
  • When to go to the emergency room.

The 24-Hour Nurse Line can also teach you about:

  • A new diagnosis.
  • Medicine dosage or side effects.
  • Treatment options.
  • Health care decisions that you are facing such as surgery.
  • Health tips during pregnancy.
  • Caring for newborns, babies, and children.

Healthy Food for a Healthy Body

It’s hard to be healthy without good food. We offer several ways to get nutritious food:

  • Food Boxes: We deliver boxes of healthy food right to your home.
  • Hospital Meals: If you’ve recently been sent home from the hospital, we can send meals to your home to help you recover.
  • Food Bank Connections: We can help you find local food banks in your community.
  • AHN Healthy Food Centers: Located inside some AHN hospitals, the food centers can give you three days of free fruits and veggies. You can also get help with recipes and talk to a dietitian (nutrition expert). Don’t forget your Food Bucks! Use these like cash to buy more healthy food at many stores.
  • Wellness Coaching: This program helps you be healthier. You can talk with our wellness experts about healthy foods, how to manage your diabetes, and how to make your home safer.

A Safe and Stable Home

Having a safe and affordable place to live is key to good health. A Housing Coordinator can help with:

  • Finding Housing: We’ll help you look for housing options that fit your needs.
  • Rent and Utilities: We can connect you with resources to help pay for rent and utility bills (gas, electricity, sewage, or water). Ask about our Utility Relief Program to help with paying the security deposit or keeping your services from being shut off.
  • Preventing Eviction: We work with you and local agencies to prevent you from losing your home.
  • Lead Poisoning Prevention: We’ll share information about lead poisoning and how to get your home tested.

Boys & Girls Clubs: Helping Young People Learn and Grow

If you’re enrolled in Highmark Wholecare and live near a participating Boys & Girls Club, we’ll help cover the cost of your Club membership, summer camps, some activities, and special programs.

The Boys & Girls Clubs help young people be healthy and happy. They offer:

  • Fun Activities: Summer camps, games, sports, art, and more! Young people can make friends and have fun.
  • Safe Place: A safe place to go before and after school. Adults are there to help.
  • Learning Help: Homework help, tutoring, and educational programs.
  • Healthy Habits: Many clubs talk about eating healthy, nutritious food and being active.
  • Life Skills: Clubs teach important skills like teamwork, leadership, and how to solve problems.

Getting Around Made Easy

Get where you need to go. We work with the Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP). MATP gives free rides to doctor visits, the pharmacy, and other medical appointments. Each county is different. We can help you sign up.

Get more free rides from Highmark Wholecare as part of your Medicaid coverage. Not everyone can get them, so ask us if you are able to get our rides. Our program can take you for nonemergency trips like:

  • Doctor Visits: Get to your doctor’s appointments easily.
  • Pharmacy: Pick up your prescriptions without worry.
  • Grocery Shopping: We’ll help you get the food you need.
  • Community Events: Join in community events and activities.

  • Job Training and Skills: We help you learn new skills or improve your existing ones.
  • GED and Test Preparation: We’ll help with preparing for the GED test with access to in person or online study tools and practice tests. We’ll cover the cost of the test too. You need to be at least 17 years old and live in PA for us to help. Ask us if you qualify.
