Statement on the passing of former CEO William Lowry
PITTSBURGH (Aug. 15, 2017) — The Highmark family was saddened this week by the passing of former CEO William (Bill) Lowry. Mr. Lowry served as president and then CEO of Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania from 1993 to 1996. He was one of the principal leaders who spearheaded the consolidation of Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Blue Shield to form Highmark in 1996.
Mr. Lowry was a highly-respected, forward-thinking leader who had great integrity and was focused on employees and the communities served by the company. His legacy remains in our company culture that continues to drive us today.
