Highmark earns prestigious Brand Excellence Award

Wellness and care management solutions recognized for innovation

PITTSBURGH (April 4, 2022) – Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield/Highmark Blue Shield were recently recognized with a 2021 Brand Excellence Award from the national Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA).

The annual Brand Excellence Awards honor Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans and are given in recognition of the efforts of Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans in building brand strength and providing superior customer service, solid financial performance and enrollment growth.

Highmark earned the Brand Excellence Award for Brand Innovation for enhancing its portfolio of Well360 solutions, Highmark’s suite of wellness and care management programs offered to employer group customers.

In 2019, Highmark upgraded two of its Well360 solutions, Well360 Connect and Well360 Focus, by adding artificial intelligence-driven technology, customizable communications capabilities, expansion of multidisciplinary care teams, and embedded digital solutions for proactive member outreach.

Well360 Focus provides a targeted solution that identifies and treats chronic conditions. This platform is chosen by many employers that want to address prevalent, recurring health conditions within their employee populations. Well360 Connect as a comprehensive, one-stop platform that makes the health care experience as seamless as possible and delivers a differentiated member experience by integrating a dedicated customer service advocate team with a multidisciplinary clinical care and wellness team.

By 2021, Highmark was able to measure the results, and compared to its standard care management solutions, members in the Well360 Connect program were 10 times more likely to actively participate in a care management or wellness program. These members also had an average total cost of care that was lower than members in standard care management solutions.

Members in the Well360 Focus program were seven times more likely to actively participate in a care management or wellness program, with an average total cost of care also lower than members in standard programs. 

BCBSA recognized Highmark for these innovations, acknowledging that they have provided members with a frictionless experience, eliminated barriers to care and provided customized solutions that have lowered costs and improved outcomes.
