Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield supports local food bank expansion

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2017) — Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield recently announced that it provided $15,000 in funding to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in support of "The Bold Journey...Until No One is Hungry" capital campaign.

The campaign transformed the Williamsport facility into a state of the art Healthy Food Hub serving the 13 rural counties in north central Pennsylvania that are part of the Food Bank's service territory: Bradford, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Potter, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union.

The Highmark funding helped the Williamsport Healthy Food Hub expand from a 17,000 square foot facility to a 30,000 square foot facility and distribute millions of pounds of healthy food to nearly 103,000 food insecure individuals, including over 30,000 children.
