Highmark Running 101

Running 101 is a free, 10-week physical activity program that provides the tools and support to help beginner runners train and complete their first 5K race. The progressive training approach provides weekly emails and step-by step training to guide participants in building confidence and physical endurance. The program can be completed online or at select in-person training sites.

Getting started is easy — register for a training start date, select a training option and make a commitment.

Begin by choosing one of the eight training start dates listed below. Then select one of two training options* — online, self-guided or in-person:

  • Online, self-guided training: If you prefer to train on your own at your own pace, this option might be a perfect fit. Available for everyone!
  • In-person training: If you prefer to meet with one of the expert coaches and train with others, this option is for you. Available at select locations in preparation for the races listed below.

Lastly, keep your eye on a race that you'd like to participate in. Some popular races are mentioned below for consideration or visit www.active.com for a list of races in your area.

More information about Running 101
Note: When you register for Running 101, you are only registering for the training program. You must register for a 5K race separately. Some 5K races will include a promotional code for a discounted price. Ask your coach or email running101@highmark.com for more information.

*If you previously participated in Running 101 and/or are active and do not require a coach to lead you through the training program, it is recommended that you register for the online, self-guided training.
