Running 101 is a free, 10-week physical activity program that provides the tools and support to help beginner runners train and complete their first 5K race. The progressive training approach provides weekly emails and step-by step training to guide participants in building confidence and physical endurance. The program can be completed online.
Before beginning, complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire to make sure you're ready for this program.
Registration will be open from June 1 through September 16, 2015.
Getting started is easy. Identify a race you want to run. Register and select your race date. Then, 10 weeks before your race, you'll begin receiving the training guide via email.
Once you register for Running 101, visit Active to find a race in your area.
Running 101 will be available to the community at large, regardless of location. For example, it allows an individual in New Mexico to run a local race of their choice and train with a virtual coach. The individual simply chooses a training start date that best coincides with a local 5K race.
