Highmark Blue Shield reaches agreement with two area hospitals

Highmark Blue Shield announced that it has signed new indemnity and managed care hospital contracts with hospitals in Easton and Berwick. The agreements mean that Easton Hospital and Berwick Hospital Center will continue to remain available to Highmark members with traditional health insurance and managed care coverage.

Highmark to open two worksite health centers at company facilities

The first center opens in its Camp Hill facility today and the second will open at the company headquarters in Pittsburgh on Nov. 20. The health centers will offer Highmark employees a variety of services including primary care, vaccinations, physical therapy, and a pharmacy.

Statement on West Penn-Allegheny Health System lawsuit against Highmark and UPMC Health Sytem

West Penn-Allegheny Health System has filed a lawsuit against Highmark and UPMC Health System in U.S. Federal District Court in the Western District of Pennsylvania. The lawsuit alleges that Highmark and UPMC violated federal antitrust laws by conspiring to monopolize clinical services in Western Pennsylvania at UPMC that has resulted in the loss of business for West Penn-Allegheny.

Highmark facilities reduced energy consumption by 5.6 percent in 2008

Highmark Inc. announced today that its energy conservation efforts in 2008, such as the installation of energy-efficient lighting and the reduction of lighting and heating and air conditioning usage, resulted in an average 5.6 percent decrease in energy consumption for the company and a savings of some $329,000 in energy costs.
