Highmark offers a Thanksgiving reminder that the deadline for Medicare Advantage enrollment is fast approaching on December 7

PITTSBURGH (Nov. 21, 2016) — December 7, 2016 is the deadline for individuals to enroll in Medicare Advantage plans for 2017. Thanksgiving week typically sees the heaviest volume of calls to Highmark and visits to its Highmark Direct stores by seniors and their families seeking information and assistance with enrollment.

"As families gather this Thanksgiving, we offer a friendly reminder to Medicare eligible individuals not to miss this opportunity to sit down with trusted family to evaluate your Medicare options," said Debbie Smith, Senior Vice President of Senior Markets at Highmark.

Medicare Advantage plans cover the same hospital and medical services as traditional Medicare Parts A & B, but unlike traditional Medicare they limit the amount a consumer is required to spend out-of-pocket.

"This can make a critical difference because these costs do add up," Smith said.

Medicare Advantage plans have other advantages as well. Because they emphasize preventive health, Medicare Advantage plans cover annual physicals and preventive health screenings free of charge. Dental and vision care, hearing aids and fitness memberships are included as standard benefits on all Highmark Medicare Advantage plans. There are no referrals or deductibles on Highmark Medicare Advantage plans making them easy to understand and simple to use.
