Highmark Preserves Existing Pricing for Highmark Cancer Patients When Chemotherapy Transitions from The Regional Cancer Center to Saint Vincent Hospital

Highmark Inc.

ERIE, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2016) — Highmark today announced that it has reached agreement with Saint Vincent Hospital to maintain existing pricing so that Highmark cancer patients will not pay more to receive chemotherapy at Saint Vincent Hospital Infusion Center than they would have paid if chemotherapy had remained at The Regional Cancer Center.

"Protecting our members' financial well-being is just as important as helping them protect their physical health," said Deborah Rice-Johnson, president of Highmark Health Plan. "Our objective at Highmark and Saint Vincent Hospital is to provide the same quality care at approximately the same price."

Transitioning chemotherapy from one setting to another is an important change. Saint Vincent Hospital has agreed to accept the same pricing Highmark has paid to The Regional Cancer Center in order to ensure Highmark members are not paying more in copays and coinsurance towards their deductible for chemotherapy because of this change.

"Together with Saint Vincent Hospital, we have taken every step to ensure patients receiving chemotherapy at the Saint Vincent Hospital Infusion Center feel comfortable and welcome," Rice-Johnson added.

The Saint Vincent Hospital Infusion Center is located in the Hardner Building, a free standing facility on the hospital campus located at the northeast corner of 23rd and Myrtle Streets. Staffed by a team of credentialed chemotherapy nurses, the newly renovated and expanded Infusion Center features private bays or rooms for each patient. Each bay or room is equipped with a flat screen television and new, comfortable reclining chairs. Parking is free.
