Highmark invites LGBT community to "Meet Dr. Right"

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield

PITTSBURGH (May 31, 2016) — It can be difficult for members of the LGBT community to find the right doctors and hospitals — health care providers who understand their needs and respect who they are.

That's why Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is hosting a free — Meet Dr. Right— event on Tuesday, June 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Highmark auditorium located at 501 Penn Ave. in Pittsburgh.

Meet Dr. Right events are sponsored by Highmark and provide attendees with the opportunity to meet, mingle and make appointments with physicians from Allegheny Health Network and other community practices that are accepting new patients.

The June 14 event will offer attendees the opportunity to meet and talk with LGBT-friendly doctors and specialists, find information on health insurance options and dental and vision care, plus talk with organizations from the Pittsburgh area that support LGBT individuals and issues.

"Our goal with this event is to let everyone know that there are resources and options available for health care right here in Pittsburgh for LGBT individuals," said Rhonda Moore Johnson, MD, MPH, senior medical director, Health Equity and Quality Services for Highmark. "Bringing that information together in one place is a great opportunity for LGBT individuals and their friends and family to learn more about living a healthier life."

Attendees can take advantage of free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings.

In support of the LGBT community, Highmark is also a sponsor of the Pittsburgh Pride events and parade on June 12.

Individuals interested in attending the free event should visit the Meet Dr. Right website to register in advance.
