Highmark achieves high quality rating for Medicare Advantage product in West Virginia

Highmark Inc.

PITTSBURGH (Oct. 15, 2015) — Highmark Inc. announced today that Freedom Blue PPO, a Medicare Advantage product for seniors in West Virginia, has earned a four-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for 2016.

The rating system, based on a scale of one to five stars, educates consumers on the overall quality of Medicare Advantage and Part D prescription drug plans. The summary score for each plan indicates the overall measure of a plan's quality and is a cumulative indicator of quality of care, access to care, responsiveness to member needs and member satisfaction.

"Highmark has always been committed to the health and wellness of our members. We are exceptionally pleased that the Medicare star rating reflects our effort to provide quality health plans to seniors in West Virginia," said Tim Lightner, Highmark vice president of senior markets.

To achieve the four-star quality rating, Highmark identified opportunities to work closely with providers and members to ensure quality and appropriate care and increased levels of member satisfaction. These strategies included partnering with network providers on initiatives to improve patient quality of care; introducing a rewards program to encourage members to take preventive health measures; and leveraging employer group partners to more effectively communicate and educate retiree plan members.

Highmark is now enrolling Medicare-eligible individuals for the 2016 Medicare annual election period, which runs from October 15 through December 7. Medicare-eligible individuals interested in learning more about Highmark's Medicare Advantage plans are encouraged to call 866-382-0741 Monday through Sunday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. TTY users may call 711.
