Highmark Blue Shield

CAMP HILL, Pa. (Oct. 15, 2015) — Highmark Blue Shield announced today that it will launch Community Blue Medicare HMO, a high-quality, lower-cost Medicare Advantage option for seniors in 14 central and northeastern Pennsylvania counties for coverage effective Jan. 1, 2016.

The product features a local network of 21 acute care hospitals and more than 4,800 physicians. A shared network in select western Pennsylvania locations will be available to members traveling across the state to visit family and friends, including an additional 50 acute care facilities and more than 11,500 physicians.

"Our goal is to provide additional choice for seniors," said Tim Lightner, vice president for senior markets, Highmark. "The Community Blue Medicare HMO is a good fit for those seeking high-quality and lower cost coverage. This product does not replace Freedom Blue PPO, but rather provides additional options to those with Medicare in central and northeastern Pa."

Community Blue Medicare HMO will be available in Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Northampton, Perry, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming counties. View a map of counties and participating facilities in the Community Blue Medicare HMO service area..

Depending on the county, the monthly premium range is between $15 and $25. Aside from the low monthly premium, other key benefits include a $5 copayment for primary care office visits and a $5 copayment for select generic prescriptions. The product will also offer acupuncture and routine dental, vision and hearing benefits. Highmark has revised the hearing benefit for 2016 to significantly reduce costs to members and create a fixed copayment for hearing aids.
