Registration is now open for the 2015 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community

Highmark Blue Shield

HARRISBURG (Feb. 3, 2015) — Highmark Blue Shield and community members will come together again on Saturday, May 16 at Harrisburg Area Community College to raise money for 46 local nonprofit organizations and take part in the annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the walk in Harrisburg. Online registration for the walk is now open, so participants can take their first step in this year's walk by registering today.

Highmark organizes and underwrites all costs associated with the walk, while walkers select the participating nonprofit organization they wish to support. The nonprofits then keep 100 percent of the funds raised by their walkers. The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community has been held annually throughout the region since 2003, and has helped more than 200 organizations collectively raise more than $7.8 million.

"At Highmark, we look forward to this event every year," said Kelly Lieblein, Highmark regional vice president. "It's inspiring to see all of the community members who come out to walk with us and support the local nonprofits that provide such important services to our area."

A 5K (3.1 mile) route and a one-mile fun walk (both handicap-accessible) are available, and pets on leashes are welcome. In addition to the walk, there will be entertainment, refreshments and prizes.

Walkers can register at the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community website, where they can select one of the following nonprofit beneficiaries:
