Registration is now open for the 2015 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community
Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware
WILMINGTON, Del. (Feb. 3, 2015) Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware (Highmark) and community members will come together again on Saturday, June 6 at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington to raise money for 20 local nonprofit organizations and take part in the annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. Online registration for the walk is now open, so participants can take their first step in this year's walk by registering today.
Highmark organizes and underwrites all costs associated with the walk, while walkers select the participating nonprofit organization they wish to support. The nonprofits then keep 100 percent of the funds raised by their walkers. The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community has been held annually throughout the region since 2003, and has helped more than 200 organizations collectively raise more than $7.8 million.
"We hope Delawareans will join us to help raise awareness and money for local nonprofit organizations," said Highmark Delaware President Tim Constantine. "Last year was the first walk in Delaware, and the community proved how supportive it is of the great work nonprofits do by surpassing our fundraising goal before the event even happened."
A 5K (3.1 mile) route and a one-mile fun walk (both handicap-accessible) are available, and pets on leashes are welcome. In addition to the walk, there will be entertainment, refreshments and prizes.
Walkers can register at the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community website, where they can select one of the following nonprofit beneficiaries:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware
Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids
