The difference you can make when you're all for health.

Protecting your health

Preventive care helps you avoid serious illness. It's the first, most important step when it comes to good health.

That's why we encourage you to get wellness exams, preventive screenings or contact a Highmark health coach. In addition, Highmark's outreach nurses call members who may need extra care. It's 100 percent covered through most Highmark plans.

Partnering with a Highmark health coach

Health coaches can help you stop smoking, lose weight, get fit, reduce stress, get more sleep and manage anxiety, depression or chronic pain. They can work with you and your doctor as well as Highmark's own team of physicians, pharmacists, social workers and dietitians.

Our health coaches can be a guiding hand to help you every step of the way. And that's just what Debbie needed when she lost weight to reduce her health risks.

Our members who seek expert advice from health coaches are living proof that teamwork can tip the balance toward better health.

Cortne's story is just one example. Her screening results showed she was headed toward a life with diabetes. But when she connected with her health coach, she found the support she needed to make positive changes. She lost weight and lowered her blood sugar into the normal range. Now, she's on a path toward a healthier life.

Watching out for your health

Sometimes you don't know where to turn or that you have resources available through Highmark. That's why our nurses call members who may be in need of extra care. You may hear from them if you have just been diagnosed with a serious disease or chronic condition such as cancer or diabetes, or if you have just been discharged from the hospital. You can get the care you need to improve your health when you work with our outreach nurses.

You can be living proof that screenings save lives

You've heard it before. And it's true. Early detection saves lives.

From cancer to heart disease, if a problem is caught early it can be treated more easily — and with better results. Review the preventive guidelines for your age and gender on your member website to see what screenings you may need.

Cancer screenings

When many cancers are caught early, the survival rate is 90 percent. Yet studies show that one in three people are late in getting screened for cancer. Schedule your screening today.

If you have a loved one who needs a screening, visit our cancer nudge site. You'll find all the tools you need to deliver subtle (and not-so-subtle) nudges.

With guidelines and resources, our nudge site is also a good place to start if you're not sure what you need.

Diabetes check

One out of every three adults has prediabetes, and 90 percent of them don't even know it. If you watched Cortne's story you know. It is possible to bring high blood sugar levels back to normal when they are caught early.

Is your heart healthy?

Heart failure puts more people over the age of 65 in the hospital than any other condition.

And did you know it's the number one cause of death in young women? A simple cholesterol test can let you know if your heart is at risk.

Don't forget your emotional health

Too often people wait to get help until a mental health situation is very serious. If you think you or a loved one may need help, don't hesitate. Schedule an appointment with a mental health specialist. Or call a Highmark health coach at 1-888-258-3428.
