2016

Real-Time Encryption Change

Highmark is upgrading our real-time connectivity on 6/4/2016 to disable SSL version 3 on the URL services.highmark.com. To mitigate security risks, the minimum protocol accepted will be TLS1.0. Please check that you are currently connecting with TLS1.0 or greater when connecting to us.

As reported in the CVE-2014-3566 dated 10/14/2014, SSL protocol 3.0 (SSLv3) uses nondeterministic CBC padding and the padding is not covered by the MAC(Message Authentication Code), which makes it easier for a man-in-the-middle attacker to obtain clear text data via a "Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption" attack (also known as "POODLE" attack).

2015

ERA Verification
With the privacy of our members in mind, when EDI Operations receives a request to add the ERA transaction to a Trading Partner number, regardless if this request comes from a Trading Partner/Clearinghouse, billing service or the provider's office directly, we are required to verbally verify this request from the Provider's office manager or owner. EDI Operations will make two attempts to contact the office manager or owner. If verification is not obtained after these two attempts, the request will be closed at the end of the next business day of the final attempt and the ERA will not be linked to the Trading Partner number.

Once the online application has been submitted, in order to expedite the process, we strongly suggest that either the billing manager or owner of the provider's office contact EDI Operations at 1-800-992-0246 to confirm the ERA request.

Announcement for Weekend BX Disaster Recovery
Due to a BCBS Association Disaster Recovery exercise this weekend, BlueExchange Plan to Plan and Production environments will be unavailable on Sunday, February 22, 2015 between 12 a.m. and 6 p. m. CST. This will impact all inquiry transactions that need to be routed through BlueExchange during this time period.
